Berechnung der CO2 Bilanz der Schule

Um den Alltag am JSG klimafreundlicher zu gestalten, mussten wir zuerst wissen, wie klimafreundlich wir zurzeit sind. Hierfür betrachten wir unseren Ausstoß (Emission) an Kohlenstoffdioxid (CO2, das als Treibhausgas mit für den Klimawandel verantwortlich ist.

CO2 entsteht u.a. durch die Verbrennung fossiler Rohstoffe (Kohle, Öl und Gas) und deren Folgeprodukten (Benzin, Kerosin) und auch bei der Abfallverbrennung.

Berücksichtigt wurden daher die CO2-Emissionen resultierend aus:

  • Energieverbrauch des Schulgebäudes (Strom + Wärme)

  • Entsorgung des Schulabfalls

  • Pendelverhalten aller Schüler_innen und des Lehrerkollegiums zur / von der Schule

  • Mobilitätsverhalten bei den Klassen- und Kursfahrten in den Stufen 6, 9 und 12

  • Papierverbrauch

Lowering the amount of CO2

In order to create a more climate-friendly environment at the Julius-Stursberg-Gymnasium, it is necessary to take a close look at how eco-friendly we are acting currently. Herefore, we need to evaluate the momentary emission of carbon dioxide (CO2), which is one of the so-called greenhouse gases that are responsible for climate change.


CO2 is produced through the combustion of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas), of the products derived from them (petrol, kerosene) as well as the combustion of waste.


That is why we first asked all students and teachers about their habits of commuting to and from the school. We paid attention both to the distance as well as the chosen means of transport. Class trips have also been included into our research as far as CO2 emissions had not been compensated for by the classes. Moreover, we evaluated data on energy consumption, resulting from our use of electricity and heating as well as from the amount of waste needed to be combusted.


Since a high amount of photocopying paper is used at our school, we also considered the amount of CO2 resulting from the process of producing the paper.


On the basis of the comprehensive data we had obtained, we finally calculated our annual rate of CO2 emission, which will serve as a reference value to prove whether our future measures will prove successful.
